Its connection to Crohn disease (CD) is debated. Our aim was to describe a cohort of pediatric patients with OFG in detail, study the long-term behavior of OFG, and evaluate factors predicting CD in patients with OFG. RESULTS Standard patch testing was much less likely to detect allergy to benzoates and cinnamon compounds (7%) than urticarial tests (55%). All urticarial tests that were positive had shown a reaction by 60 min. CONCLUSIONS Both standard and urticarial patch tests are required to detect food allergies in orofacial granulomatosis. 2.3 Orofacial granulomatosis. Orofacial granulomatosis (OFG), defined by Wiesenfeld in 1985, encompasses conditions characterized by non-necrotizing granulomatous inflammation of soft tissues in the oral and maxillofacial region that present clinically with labial enlargement, perioral and/or mucosal swelling, oral ulcerations, gingivitis, and a variety of other orofacial features [].

The increased prevalence of atopy in patients with orofacial granulomatosis and the association with food intolerance suggests the possibility of a role for allergy in at least some cases. Results: Standard patch testing was much less likely to detect allergy to benzoates and cinnamon compounds (7%) than urticarial tests (55%).
Orofacial granulomatosis is a descriptive term used for a broad group of disorders affecting soft tissues of the face and oral cavity. It is characterized clinically by chronic orofacial swelling and histologically by noncaseating epithelioid granulomas. 1 The term orofacial granulomatosis is nonspecific and is used to encompass clinical and histologic features of more than 1 underlying etiology. 1 - 3 Orofacial Granulomatosis Orofacial granulomatosis (OFG) is also known as Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome, Cheilitis Granulomatosis, and Schuermann's Glossitis Granulomatosa. It is an uncommon inflammatory condition that affects the face and lips in people of all ages, but it is most common in early adult years.
